This policy explains how Simmers Guide researches, labels, writes, reviews, and corrects its content. Mina Hartwell is the site’s founder and editor and is accountable for the final published work.
Our two content standards
1. Tested content
We use the label Tested only when the editor or a named contributor has completed hands-on checks. A tested article should state the platform, game version, test date, relevant packs or dependencies, and the scope of the check. Depending on the article, checks may include installation, whether the item appears in game, basic functionality, conflicts noticed during the test, and whether the creator’s instructions match the result.
A successful check is a point-in-time result, not a permanent warranty. The Sims 4 patches, creator updates, other mods, and different hardware can change the outcome.
2. Curated discovery content
We use the label Curated Discovery for researched roundups and collections based on publicly available creator information. Items in these posts are not necessarily installed or tested by Simmers Guide. Selection means an item appeared relevant and met our research criteria; it is not a certification of safety, compatibility, or quality.
Curated posts should link readers to the original creator or an authorized source and should not use hands-on language such as “we tested” unless the stated testing standard was actually met.
Research and source verification
- We prefer original creator pages, official release posts, and first-party documentation.
- We check that the source identifies the creator and provides usable download or requirement information at the time of review.
- We avoid re-upload sites and do not provide replacement downloads for creator files.
- We distinguish what a source states from what Simmers Guide has independently observed.
- For guides, we cite or link important sources when that helps readers verify changing information.
Selection and ranking
Roundup selections are editorial judgments based on relevance, clarity of source information, usefulness, presentation, variety, and apparent recency or maintenance. Inclusion is not an endorsement of every file, creator practice, or external website. We do not accept payment for positive placement or rankings.
Attribution and images
We identify creators and link to their original or authorized pages whenever reasonably possible. Credits do not replace permission. We aim to use original site graphics or creator materials where reuse is permitted. Creators or rights holders can request a credit correction, source update, or image review through our Contact page; we will investigate and, when appropriate, correct or remove the material.
AI-assisted tools
We may use AI-assisted tools for tasks such as outlining, editing, formatting, or organizing research. Mina Hartwell reviews the final article and remains responsible for its accuracy, sourcing, labels, and editorial judgment. AI output does not replace source verification, and unreviewed AI-generated copy is not intentionally published.
Advertising, affiliates, and independence
Advertising and affiliate relationships, if used, are kept separate from editorial decisions and are disclosed where relevant. Compensation does not guarantee coverage, favorable language, or ranking. Sponsored material will be clearly identified.
Corrections and updates
Readers and creators can report broken links, incorrect credits, compatibility changes, factual errors, or unclear labeling through our Contact page. We review reports against available sources. Depending on the finding, we may correct the article, add context, update its date or label, replace a link, or remove the material. Significant changes should be made transparently rather than silently preserving information known to be wrong.
Reader responsibility
Mods and custom content are third-party files. Readers should follow creator instructions, verify dependencies, back up saves, scan files, and check compatibility after game patches. Simmers Guide does not host featured downloads and cannot guarantee third-party files or websites.
